What is the difference between a CEU and a CEH?
A CEU is a Continuing Education Unit; a CEH is a Continuing Education Hour. Although the
terms CEU and CEH are often used interchangeably in advertising, licensing agencies require Continuing Education courses
(CE) to be measured in CEHs. A CEH identifies the total number of hours it takes to complete a CE course, and can also
be referred to as a Contact Hour.
At Women and Addiction Continuing Education Services (WACES), our classes are measured in CEHs. The number of CEHs earned is listed
on your Certificate of Completion, as mandated by the licensing/certification boards. |
Why do credentialing agencies require continuing education for license renewal or re-certification?
The purpose of continuing education for licensing renewal and re-certification is to keep professionals
up to date on the latest information, to broaden their knowledge-base with new material and to ensure that they
are providing the best possible treatment plan for their patients. Continuing education provides a forum for health
professionals to acquire new information and build their skill level, thereby increasing their success rate with clients. |
How long does it take to complete a course?
Each course can be completed in the number of hours listed as the contact hours or units. For example,
a 2-unit course can be completed within 2 hours. This means it will take you, at most, 2 hours to read the
course material, review the test questions, research the answers to the questions and record your responses
on the answer sheet provided. Time to take and pass the test have been included in the hours given for the course.
Since people read and comprehend at different rates, the hours it takes participants to
complete the course may vary greatly.
Participants, who are speed-readers, have considerable knowledge of the material, a familiarity with the topic
and/or extensive clinical experience, may complete the course in less time. Conversely, participants who read more slowly,
have little clinical experience and/or no familiarity with the topic would need to take the full 2 hours to
complete the course. |
How much time do I have to complete a course?
You may take as much time as you need to complete any of our courses. |
What does taking a course involve?
Every course requires you to read a text book or online eBook, which you can do on your own time and
at your own pace. In order to demonstrate that you have read the material, you are required to answer some multiple-choice
questions. The questions are listed in order and the answers are easy to locate in the text.
The quiz is not designed to grade you, but rather to ensure that you've read and comprehended the material. After you
have completed the exam and the evaluation form, your Certificate of Completion will be issued to you via e-mail. |
Why do I have to take a quiz?
The quiz is designed to verify completion of the course and understanding of the materials.
Unlike a workshop, where attendance can be taken and a facilitator is present to answer questions,
online courses require a different format to demonstrate comprehension of the course materials. |
How many questions are there on the quiz for each course?
The number of questions varies, according to the number of units for the course. The exam is presented in an open-book format and the questions follow the order of the written material,
so that they can be easily answered as you read the course materials.
You can view the questions before taking the course by clicking on the View Exam
button on the course listing page. |
What is a passing score for the quiz?
You must score 70% or higher to pass the course exam and qualify for issuance of a Certificate of Completion. |
What if I fail the exam?
You may retake the exam as many times as necessary. However, you must pay
the exam fee each time you take the test. |
Do I need any special software to use your site?
You will need Adobe Reader to view and print the Examination Study Guides as
well as the Smart Kids, Smart Choices booklets. If you do not have Adobe Reader on your computer, a link to Adobe.com is
provided on our Home page, as well as the Smart Kids, Smart Choices page. The
software is free. |
How and when do I get my Certificate of Completion?
How long should I keep my Certificate of Completion?
Most licensing boards require that Certificates be retained by the licensee for a period of four (4) years. Please
check with your board to determine the required time-frame. |
What happens if I lose my Certificate?
We will e-mail you a copy of your Certificate for a fee of $5.00. |
